Social psychologists at Harvard want to know why so many people feel that their conversations are either too long, too short, and almost never just right (only 2% of the time). Humans seem uncoordinated when it comes to timing the end of conversations. Our skills at politely masking our feelings don’t match our skills at seeing through our interlocutor’s politely masked feelings. Mastroianni’s research sheds light on this fascinating social dance we too often overlook. Maybe we are more like Goldilocks than we think.
